Autumnal Birthstone Jewellery – Part 3
Welcome back to the final part of our top picks for the birthstones of the autumn and early winter months. In Autumnal Birthstone Jewellery Part 1 we looked at opulent opal jewellery for October, then we moved into November where citrine complements the colours of the seasons. The December birthstone is topaz, an icy blue gem which is again perfectly colour matched to the palette of the natural world at that time of year.
Topaz comes in many colours but the blue version is the birthstone for December. The coolness of the stone evokes thoughts of icicles, skating on frozen ponds and those crisp, frosty mornings where the bluish haze of morning fog hangs in the air. Topaz jewellery also looks amazing at parties and social events (even if some of those might be on Zoom!) because the subtle blue sparkles like diamonds and will catch admiring glances from the other side of the room.
Of course, our Vita collection features topaz pieces but we really love the Orbit stud earrings with the beautiful blue of topaz. The shiny, sleek flush mount really showcases the stone, and as with the citrine ideas (from the last instalment) the perfect pair can be found with the Vivid Blue necklace to make a duo and although not an exact match, they complement each other perfectly. If you want to throw another piece into the mix, then the Snow Dome ring with a cabochon cut topaz creates a three piece ensemble that plays on the mismatch trend but keeps it on the stylish side.
For a showy, party style accessory the Spicy Blue pieces combine modern style with attention grabbing accents. The earrings and necklace will look fabulous with any of your favourite party outfits and if you want to add a ring to the look then the Snow Dome option will complement the other pieces without being over the top. If you want some movement in your earrings then the Duo Bleu studs with drop portion are a great match for the style of the Snow Dome ring. Two shades of topaz make these earrings interesting to look at and the drop section will move elegantly as you do.
If you're going to something really sophisticated and you want a showy necklace then the Grand Regal Blue necklace fits the bill. A large topaz stone instantly makes this look very expensive, and the knot-inspired cubic studded mount looks just like diamonds, especially when they're catching and reflecting the blue light scattered from the central stone. This necklace would be ideal with an off-the-shoulder dress to really showcase the piece, but because it's so bold it would work with many necklines. The Regal Blue earrings use a similar design but with a simple halo style mount, so that they don't steal the attention from the necklace.
For an equally attention grabbing, but more modern style check out our Blue Lagoon three piece set. Large emerald cut stones, which are very on trend right now, feature as earrings, a necklace and a ring. This rectangular cut is elegant and trendy, but it's also a classic cut that won't age or go out of style – these are investment pieces that you can wear right away (or give as a treasured gift) that will become part of the family heirloom collection.
For artistic and bohemian types the Wild Spirit earrings would be a treasured gift, perhaps for a December birthday with the matching necklace given for Christmas? The design style here will suit free spirits but will also look great at functions and parties, bridging the gap between formality and casual dressing. If the Wild Spirit twin set isn't quite right for your giftee, then the Viola Blue two piece set is also one which evokes carefree living but can also be worn to a meeting with a bank manager. Both these options will make excellent gifts (or treats for yourself!).
We hope this selection of autumnal birthstone jewellery options has solved a few “what should I get?” questions, whether for a birthday gift or for Christmas. It is nice to give birthstone jewellery as a birthday gift, but as a Christmas (or anniversary and other special occasion) gift opting for a birthstone adds a personal, thoughtful touch.
