Tips For Travelling With Jewellery
The warmer months always bring more travel opportunities, from family holidays to a romantic city break, a hen weekend or possibly a wedding. Each of these events has its own packing style and demands, so here are our top tips for travelling with jewellery for all these potential trips away;
The City Break
This could be a couple’s trip or a short break with friends. but in both cases the order of this sort of long weekend is to pack in as much as you can in 72 hours. Tailored shorts are a great option for a summer city break, as they'll keep you cool in the day and look chic at night. Hair can go from a practical braid to beachy waves, and jewellery that matches is a great way to accessorise. Wear one or two pieces from a set during the day, and then add one or two more from your handbag to glam up your look for the evening.
A small jewellery case is the perfect thing for a short trip and it won't take up a lot of space in your carry-on luggage and handbag. We recommend a hard shell case to protect your bling during transit.
The Hen Weekend
This can be very similar to the City Break, but there's often more focus on spa treatments, beautification and perhaps even some crafts. For this reason we recommend avoiding rings that might get dirty in an art or pottery class, or will get covered in lotions in a spa setting. You could slip your own wedding and/or engagement rings onto a necklace chain for the weekend to keep them close, but clean.
Keep jewellery for the evening activities, but take something that is meaningful to you and the bride-to-be – perhaps a friendship ring or something she has gifted to you in the past? Again, a small portable jewellery case is perfect for taking a couple of pieces for a couple of nights.
The Wedding
A wedding trip usually means one overnight stay unless you're part of the wedding party. If you are involved in the day, especially as a bridesmaid, you may be given some jewellery at the rehearsal dinner as a thank you. The bride may decide she wants all her girlies to have matching pieces, so be prepared to switch your planned jewellery at the last minute. Brides may like to check out our birthstone jewellery for affordable wedding gift options – choose your own birthstone, the one which matches the colour scheme or the stone for the month of your wedding for a meaningful gift.
It's always advisable to bring some options for a wedding; perhaps some last minute old/borrowed/blue items will be needed? Maybe you will see some family members there who you'd like to give jewellery to? A wedding can require more jewellery than you think for a single night away, so pack your pieces carefully in a medium sized jewellery case or roll.
The Family Holiday
What you pack for a family holiday depends on the ages of the people going! If you have plenty of younger family members the chances are you won't have many opportunities to wear pricy jewellery while you spend time on the beach, at waterparks and doing other physical activities. Sea, sand, sun lotion and sunlight can all be damaging for gemstones so be careful about what you pack, leaving softer stones like pearls and opals behind. Our jewellery is all rhodium plated which helps prevent tarnishing, but we recommend cleaning your jewellery thoroughly if it's in contact with seawater and lotions. Our Diamond Dazzle Stik is ideal for taking with you as a portable cleaner for jewellery that might get a bit grubby.
Packing light is the best way to go for a family holiday; if you have small children with you, you're likely not to need a lot, and if you have older family members then you can always borrow and lend pieces within the group, reducing the number of pieces you need to bring.
Whatever your holiday plans you’ve made for this year, we hope you have a marvellous time and pack your favourite Amore Argento pieces (and the polishing cloths!) to enjoy while you make memories with family and friends.
