What Would Nicola Coughlan Wear?

Nicola Coughlan is the star of Bridgerton, playing Penelope Featherington who is the subject of this series' main romantic storyline and the true identity of Lady Whistledown.  The Irish actress is also known for her role in the sitcom Derry Girls and her own show Big Mood, and she's no stranger to a red carpet event either. 

Coughlan is a lover of statement jewellery for press events, and one of her most recent looks took this to an extreme with a gold-plated corset, embossed with an anatomically correct heart to tie in with the season 3 love story.  The custom made piece was created by Suhani Parekh at MISHO in Mumbai and was designed especially for the press tour, for this season of the hit Netflix show.  It seems the jewellery studio is a favourite of Nicola's, as she wore earrings and rings from the Indian atelier for the premiere of Big Mood.

Gold-plated corsets aside, Nicola can often be found in statement earrings for red carpet events and we think she'd love our Lace drop earrings.  These sterling silver latticework, French wire earrings are a great choice for photographs as they will catch light from every direction.  With no stone they will make the perfect match with any and every outfit, making them a great investment for a season of social events.  We might not have the whirlwind of parties they have in The 'Ton, but we're looking forward to a sociable summer nonetheless!

Our Devotion drop earrings are also a good option for Nicola's style; a Peardrop shaped opal is set in a milgrain edged gold mount that evokes a little of the Regency style with the modern shimmer of the opal.  Nicola can often be found in silvers, creams and shimmery fabrics, so we can be certain she'd love these opal earrings as they have a similar aesthetic.  For a solid statement earring the Spicy Opal set would be ideal and the matching necklace with a block colour outfit would be right up Nicola's style street.

When she's not in full glam mode Nicola likes a classic hoop earring, with our Hoopla pair being an excellent choice for her.  Her hoops always have a little something different about them, so we think she'd love the pared back smoothness of these with the two different finishes and tapering profile providing interest.  Our Summer Breeze hoops with the square profile would also be ideal for a busy day of interviews, promotional work and business lunches.

Nicola is very much from the Coco Chanel School of accessorising, and is rarely seen in a full four-piece set.  She does like to team statement earrings with rings, though, and is usually seen with one or two rings on, occasionally multiple rings, if the outfit calls for it.

When choosing a bold ring to work with bold earrings, stick with the same metal, mount shape or stone to create a link between the two pieces.  Sometimes it's nice to wear the earrings and ring from the same set, but we think Nicola would make her own match from her jewellery collection.

Our Shimmer ring would be a great friend to the Devotion earrings, as they're both opal pieces with antique style elements.  Our Interlace ring, probably our largest one, would also be perfect for a statement look with its spray of topaz stones across the top that make a real statement of glamour.  The Ebony ring would also make a great statement, perhaps with the neutral Lace earrings, while our Romance ring is an old-school glamour style that wouldn't look out of place on the Bridgerton set.  Finally, the It's Love eternity ring is perfect for stacking as it pinches in the centre, making it the ideal shape for nestling up against a bigger ring.
